Yes, I understand the “irony” of writing those words of Shakespeare given some of the things I have written in this blog about myself. I have also learned the wisdom of Murray’s words.

It is depressing to me to look at “automotive” websites and see almost nothing but stories about new SUVs and electric/hybrid cars. Even though a recent AAA poll suggests that 20 percent (still far less than a majority, by the way) of Americans would consider buying an electric car, the fact is that such vehicles comprise only about one percent of the US market. I have nothing against electric vehicles and suspect they will dominate the market in the future; I am, however, opposed to journalists acting as cheerleaders.
What really galls me is that the company basically founded by Shitler is running ads telling us we have to drive electric. I wish Volkswagen nothing but plague and pestilence. Vuck Folkswagen!
My theory on the rise of non-car vehicles has been stated often in this blog.

The article named the new GT350 as the best muscle car. To me, a muscle car hails from 1964 to 1971 and has nothing to do with the computers on wheels we drive today. Let me quickly state that with as much objectivity as I can summon I believe today’s cars are in another league compared to those revered relics of years past. Maybe today’s cars may not be muscle cars we define them now. But in 50 years the Camaro and the Mustang GT 350 will be the collector cars of tomorrow…Will there still be Barret Jackson or Mecum 50 years from now? What do you think about the collector car market in 50years?

Great questions, C/2. If I were that omniscient I would make a 10-figure fortune in stocks and bonds and retire with my wonderful wife to a 12-car garage with an attached house.
I think some type of collector car market will exist well into the future, but that market will change as younger buyers with different tastes enter.

Re Mustang vs. Camaro – the Dodge Challenger has outsold the Camaro most of the year and, last I read was solidly in the #2 slot for pony car sales for the 2019 model year. No, I didn’t check the numbers again before posting this. Likewise, the Ram truck has outsold Chevrolet this model year, though if you combine Chevrolet and GMC truck sales, the General still outsells Ram. (Well, that’s one way for GM to fudge the numbers so that their 3rd place ranking for Chevrolet trucks doesn’t look so bad. It’s also tacit confession that the GMC is nothing more than a badge-engineered Chevrolet …)

Yes, the Camaro has dropped to the bottom of the ponycar market in sales and rumors abound the car will be discontinued in 2022 or 2023. I drove a fifth-generation Camaro as a rental and was disappointed at the lack of rearward vision. Don’t know if that’s a factor in declining sales.
I think one problem is that the Camaro and Corvette markets have too much overlap. Neither Ford nor FCA really has anything to cannabalize their ponycar sales.
