Enough!

Yesterday started with my having a bad fall on the driveway…and got much worse from there. One reason for the horrible day is that we still have not received the final and most important result from my wonderful wife’s surgery.

A no doubt futile plea to the universe: ENOUGH! We need some kind of cosmic front to blow the cloud of sh*t away.

With that off my chest…a picture that will, hopefully, be a calming influence:

I have shown the fountain in Fountain Hills, Arizona before. I think this is the best shot I’ve published, though, as it shows the lake and a hint of the surrounding mountains.

As I have recounted before, we almost made an offer on a house in Fountain Hills. My wonderful wife got cold feet, though, thinking it would be too far from “civilization.” Happy Wife, Happy Life…

I do think the probability we end up living there is not zero, though. We may reach a point where we “have” to move to a one-story house and if we do I think Fountain Hills would be a place we would look. An annual Concours d’Elegance is held there, by the way.

If you’re not reading then you can’t answer this, but where have all the readers gone? Please don’t tell me it’s a holiday thing because December of last year easily had the most views and visitors of any month in the nearly four years I have been writing Disaffected Musings. By the way, did you know that–as best as anyone can estimate–the average blog lasts for just 100 days?

The hashtag #somanycarsjustonelife has never caught on. It is an appropriate description of my feelings, though. I am still pleasantly surprised at how many interesting cars I see here on a daily basis, cars like this, for example:

This picture (from The American Auto by the Auto Editors of Consumer Guide®) is a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado. While driving somewhere yesterday with my wonderful wife we saw a 1967 or 1968 Eldo. We couldn’t quite tell the year as both cars were moving at 50+ MPH.

Although the car was “dropped” from my Ultimate Garage (appearing in 2.0 but not in 3.0) I am still a big fan of these Eldorados. As I plot to come up with a way to add a car to our possession, I am thinking it should be a member of an Ultimate Garage. Maybe our potential future home (in Fountain Hills?) could have parking, either in a garage or not, for four or five cars. If you don’t have dreams, you have nightmares. All too often, the nightmares happen while you’re awake.

Monday Musings 84

Do you like my numbering of the Monday Musings posts? As the post number increases, the number of views seems to decline. Sometimes, I just can’t think of a more clever post title.

From Why Evolution Is True a post that should make almost everyone’s blood boil: the American Medical Association is going full “woke.” From Jesse Singal:

“The American Medical Association has just released “Advancing Health Equity: A Guide to Language, Narrative and Concepts,” a strange document that calls for doctors to insert progressive politics into even plain statements of fact.”

The only solution is dissolution.

Pictures I took yesterday at the weekly car show in Fountain Hills did not turn out as well as I had hoped. I had to take many of them into the sun and did not get a good view of the lake. Nevertheless:

As for the actual cars, I didn’t take that many photos. I really long for an event where I see more cars like this one we saw on Saturday:

This Rambler American at Fountain Hills “spoke” to me:

These three cars appealed to me as well:

Sorry the Buick on the left got chopped. Again, the acute sun angle made photography difficult. Maybe JS or Mark can give me some suggestions.

I was sure I had more to write this morning, but I apparently do not. We’ll see about tomorrow.

Sunday Supplement

I cannot comprehend how anyone can support the “Palestinians” after reading the truth about them. Oh, actually I can; it’s called hateful, ignorant anti-Semitism.

******************

The fountain in Fountain Hills, Arizona, driven by three 600 horsepower turbine pumps, sprays water at a rate of 7,000 gallons per minute through an 18-inch nozzle. With all three pumps under ideal conditions, the fountain reaches 560 feet in height, though in normal operation only two of the pumps are used, with a fountain height of about 300 feet. When built it was the world’s tallest fountain, a record it held for over a decade.

Although we only saw it run for about three minutes, we were finally successful in seeing it in operation. We had driven to Fountain Hills a couple of times previously and arrived during its scheduled time of operation, but it was not in service. By the way, almost no one else was watching the fountain when we were there yesterday.

We came very close to buying a home in Fountain Hills. I think it’s very likely the house we did buy has appreciated more rapidly than the one we didn’t. Of course, unless we’re going to downsize and move to a place where the real estate market isn’t as hot, then the increase in our house’s value, and our equity, is not really relevant.

The WordPress editor is, once again, acting up today. Among other things, that makes it difficult to format text and to add media–like pictures–the longer the post gets. I have quite a few photos I would like to share, but will have to save many of them for a day when the editor is more cooperative.

My wonderful wife and I attended the Pavilions auto show yesterday and, once again, it was sparsely attended. Perhaps it was the light, intermittent rain or the fact that many of the “snowbirds” have left the area. Maybe it’s because the word isn’t out that the show has resumed.

Anyway…this is a restomod 1954 Hudson Metropolitan. The car was basically hand-built by its owner. It has a supercharged small-block Chevy engine and a 700 R4 automatic transmission.

This is a 1967 AMC Ambassador. Of course, I always enjoy seeing cars from defunct American makes.

Did I mention that the house we almost bought in Fountain Hills had a 360° view of mountains? We have a nice view now, but it’s not 360°. Oh well…
