Mindless Monday

Surprised this is the first post with this title…

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a lot of people need corrective eye wear.

Our new friends and neighbors, R and T, invited us to watch the sunset on their observation deck on Saturday. Although I took many photos that I liked, this one simply stood out.

Continuing the theme of beauty, since the blog is still technically anonymous I cannot show a full shot of my wonderful wife. I hope she is not too upset with the next two photos.

The top photo is, of course, of Cristy Lee. I have not mentioned her much in the blog lately and Where Is Cristy Lee?, the most-read post in 2020, 2021 and 2022, is nowhere to be found among the most read posts this year. I also have not seen her on TV at all since her HGTV series finished airing last year.

The young woman on the left in the bottom photo is Lauren Bostwick, an on-air meteorologist for WeatherNation. (I have no idea who her friend is.)

From Will Rogers via this post: “This would be a great time in the world for some man to come along that knew something.”

In an idiom I have used before I will simply offer some links to posts from Why Evolution Is True without comment:

A good piece on the ideological infection of biology.”

More anti-Semitism in academia…

Colin Wright debunks a dreadful paper claiming that sex is multimodal.”

My long-time friend Robert sent me the link to this post from MotorBiscuit via Smart News. The title is, “Dodge’s Integrated Turbo Cylinder Head Could Save Muscle Cars.” In one section the author of the piece writes, not too convincingly–in my opinion, that “Dodge’s new head design can save ICE muscle cars.”

I, however, am not going down without a fight. I will NEVER own an electric vehicle and if I am still alive when the government comes to confiscate my ICE-powered cars let’s just say carnage will ensue.

Thank you for this quote which I have added to my Famous Quotations file.

    My favorite quote about “seeing”.

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” – Henry David Thoreau

Judging by them tore up jeans she is wearing, I guess WeatherNation doesn’t pay their employees very well. 🙂

I took the weekend off and attended some motorcycle races, as a spectator only, at Road Atlanta. One race class I really enjoyed is called “King of the Baggers”. Full size Harley and Indian touring bikes, obviously race prepped, 650 pound minimum weight. They were topping 160 mph on the back straight and lapping at around 3 seconds slower than the Supebike class which weighs around 300 pounds, while on a 2.6 mile track. Amazing to see in person.

The best part of the weekend was a group of climate change protestors outside the main gate on Saturday morning. To say they were mocked mercilessly would be an understatement. One of the few time the sportbike crowd and the heavy cruiser crowd agreed on something. Lucky for the protestors the local Sheriffs office was there to keep the peace. The other thing the crowd seemed united about was the one battery powered Chinese motorcycle display in the infield. From what I saw, they were the loneliest vendor there over the 2 days.

    1. Thanks, DDM. Actually, the torn jean look is in and she may have purchased those like that new.

The US government realizes that the vast majority of the population does not want to drive an electric vehicle so they are trying to force us to do so. The same thing is happening in Australia. Well, I am neither a sheep nor a lemming.

      1. I’m aware of that fashion trend. About 4-5 years ago my business partner and his teen daughter were at my house one evening. I had just finished sorting out some old jeans that were pretty beat up, torn and/or stained with paint or grease. His daughter asked what I was doing with them? Trashing them. She asked if she could pick thru them, ended up grabbing 2/3 pairs, all of which were at least 6 waist sizes too big for her. I just shook my head. I wouldn’t wear them in my garage, she was gonna wear them in public.

One of the best hustles I ever heard was some guy in Tennessee I think. Would buy new jeans, hang them on a clothesline, and shoot them with a shotgun. He would then sell them for well over double what he paid.

There’s a sucker born every minute. That’s true whether or not it was PT Barnum who said it.

  3. I am old enough to remember when holes in jeans showed you were poor. In the stores they sold patches your mom could use her iron to cover up the holes. The patches still showed you were poor. Nowadays I wear Wrangler jeans, the Cowboy Cut, Original fit jeans. I had to look at their website, to make sure of what they called them. Too many choices befuddle my old brain. I used to wear Levi’s 501, but I didn’t like the fit. Too many “kids” are too addicted to “fashion”. I wear my jeans until they are almost white from too many trips through the washer. Although NO holes. I guess my fashion is Wrangler jeans and Western cut shirts when I go out in public. Otherwise, around the house it is jeans and a tee shirt, except in summer when cargo shorts replace the jeans. Old habits are hard to kill off, especially when you don’t want to kill them off.

I are NOT a sheep, I am a sheepdog. If you are a wolf after the sheep, beware of me.

In response to DDM on the 160 mph back straight speeds of the “baggers”: There is NO replacement for displacement.
